Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

Easy to put together.started right up.ran good for a few minutes then ran like the choke was on.could not turn the saw sideways to cut a standing tree.it would die out.took it to a warranty repair shop and was told the new ethanol fuels are eating the epoxy seals in the cheap junk carberaturs that are put on these saws.Homelite has come out with a new design of an old carb.repair shop said they have repaired many.the new carb should be good for years.

Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

Overall the saw is what I need. The main problems I've had since I bought it is that it is difficult to start again after refueling or if I turn it off for a short time.
The knob to take the side cover off is almost impossible to loosen up after it has run for awhile. I always have to use pliers to do so.
Chain tension screw would work better than plastic
knob.

Just used it for the first time cleaning up after a heavy (and unusual) snow. Cut up two fallen pine trees and lots of fallen branches. Strong engine. Once you get used to the proper starting position, it starts good.

Easy to use but the chain falls off if you are hard on it. I do like the saw. A BIG hardwood fell in my back yard and the saw is too small for the base of the tree. I wish they made a 36" bar for this saw. 42cc is nice. Again I do like the saw a lot!!! Well worth the money!!!

Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

My brother and I purchased this exact saw last year. I live in NC and he lives in NY. He used it here in NC and liked it so much he 'borrowed' it to use on his 18 acres in western NY. He has 3 chain saws total and this is the one he uses the most. Now, he won't bring it back because he likes it so much, so since I had a tree down, we went 1/2'ers on this one (he has a wooded lot here in Eastern, NC as well), so we use it to clean up brush and smaller trees here with the 2nd one. So, far, no problems with the saw.

Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

I really loved this saw the first several times I used it cutting up the many big oak branches that fell during the ice storm of '08,but several months later, the chain started coming off and the threads inside the tension nut that holds the clutch cover on and keeps the chain tight, have shreaded making the saw unusable . Am now waiting for the replacement part that is on a 5 week backorder . Next time,I will buy a saw with a traditional chain tensioning system because this one is pretty dinky .

Started up right out of the box. Looked brand new. Cut through large trees felled on ground easily, and cut them into rounds fast. Bought a chain cover at the hardware store. I am a small person and I can handle this chain saw. It is lightweight for its power and length of cutting blade. Thanks CPO again for a great tool.

Progressively more difficult to start in first week. Since then, it's been sitting at the Homelite dealer's repair shop (6 weeks) waiting for a short block. It's made of flimsy plastic, the chain tightener doesn't work well, and now of course, it won't run at all. Save your money!

Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

This is the third Homelite Chainsaw that I have owned since 1969. I still have the original two and they both still run. If properly maintained, they will start after the second pull on full choke, everytime. That's the feature I like best about any Homelite gasoline tool. I've never had a Homelite product, which includes a very old 2-cycle 1700 watt generator, that was difficult to start, or did not perform the way that I expected it to perform. Homelite is my favorite.

Comments about Homelite Homelite Factory-Reconditioned 42cc 18" Gas Chain Saw:

When the saw arrived, the bar and chain were not attached to the saw body. The chain would not fit in the bar slot easily and, when forced in, the chain would not rotate on the bar. On closer inspection, the chain links appear to have a number of manufacturing defects on them. I called customer service and they promised to send a replacement chain, but said that it would take 7-10 days to arrive because it was manufactured at another plant. If these are factory-reconditioned, one would think that the factory would at least try to see if the saw could be assembled and run properly before shipping it out, as the "certificate of authenticity" that came with the saw assured me it had been!?! Apparently not!

I cut alot of firewood for my wood burner. I have an old Homelite and wanted a back up saw. This saw cuts and runs great. At first when I got it, I started it and it fires right up. Warmed it up and found it had a little bogg in it when you hit the throttle. A little adjustment and no bogg. And I love the new chain adjustment, cant beat it. I know this is not a top of the line chainsaw but I dont need one for what I do around my place. This is a great Saw for us that dont do logging. Easy to use, runs great and can handle every thing the more expensive saw's can. And its a great buy too.
